The weekday wedding: Colorado's best-kept budget secret
Here's a thing the wedding industry doesn't say out loud: almost everything about a wedding gets easier, cheaper, and calmer when it doesn't happen on a Saturday.
Not "budget version" easier. Actually better. Here's the honest case — including the tradeoffs, because there are a couple.
What a weekday actually buys you
The venue you couldn't get. Colorado's most-loved venues book their peak-season Saturdays a year or more out. Those same rooms and gardens often sit open on Thursdays six weeks away — and many offer weekday rates that run meaningfully below their Saturday price. If you've fallen for a venue that's "unavailable," ask about a weekday before you give it up.
Vendors at their best. A photographer, planner, or florist working a Saturday in June is often working their third event that week. On a Tuesday, you're the only wedding on anyone's calendar. That's not a small thing — attention is the actual product you're buying from every vendor.
Real budget headroom. Venue and rental savings on non-Saturday dates commonly run 20–40% depending on the venue and season. On a Colorado wedding budget — where the statewide median runs under $20,000 — that's the difference between cutting the guest list and keeping it.
A calmer day. Less traffic to the mountain venue. Easier hotel blocks. Restaurants that can actually seat your welcome dinner.
The honest tradeoffs
- Some guests can't make a weekday. True. Couples handle this two ways: give long notice (four-plus months and most people can arrange a day off), or embrace a smaller list — which many weekday couples wanted anyway.
- Sunday is the gentle compromise. Most of the weekday advantages at a weekend-adjacent date. Sunday-into-Monday holiday weekends are the sweet spot.
- Off-season stacks the discount. A Thursday in April or late October multiplies the savings — and Colorado's shoulder seasons are quietly gorgeous. (Snow is a real possibility; a good plan B is non-negotiable.)
How to actually plan one
- Pick the guest list philosophy first. Weekday weddings shine at 2–75 guests. Decide who truly needs to be there; the date follows.
- Ask venues for their non-Saturday pricing directly. Many don't advertise it. The phrase "do you offer weekday or Sunday rates?" regularly unlocks a different rate sheet.
- Book vendors who like weekdays. Some studios treat weekday work as an afterthought. Ask directly: "do you do weekday weddings often?" (Our answer: it's the entire point of our studio — same price any day, and weekdays get our best availability.)
- Give guests notice and logistics early. A clear website with times, travel notes, and nearby hotels does most of the work.
